Lucknow: Attacking the central and state governments for rise in unemployment, woes of farmers and crime against women, SP president Akhilesh Yadav on Monday said the BJP “hides behind religion and God” to mask its failures in governance.
Targeting BJP’s nationwide Viksit Bharat campaign, which aims to ensure that no eligible person is deprived of benefits of government welfare schemes, Akhilesh asked if it addresses the woes of farmers, youth and women.“How can one conceive of a Viksit Bharat (Developed India) without ensuring prosperity of farmers, securing jobs for unemployed youths and safety of women,’ he asked, adding that the Viksit Bharat campaign is another event management exercise.
He said the BJP government has failed to list decisions that government has taken till date to ensure jobs for unemployed youth.
“Our state government had claimed that investments worth Rs 40 lakh crore will be made in UP. It is time for government to give details of investment on ground. Government should provide a list of youths who have got jobs because of these investments,” he said.
“In sawalon ka jawab Bharatiya Janata Party ke paas nahi hai … isliye Bharatiya Janata Party kabhi dharam ke peeche, kabhi bhagwan ke peeche chhip jaati hai (BJP does not have answers to these questions, so it hides behind issues like religion and God),” Akhilesh said.
The former CM said the BJP government, as per the figures available, had waived loans worth Rs 10 lakh crore secured by top industrialists. “If government can waive Rs 10 lakh crore loans that industrialists had taken, Samajwadi Party strongly demands that it should write off loans that farmers had taken,” he said, adding that since the formation of BJP government at the Centre in 2014, one lakh farmers have committed suicide as per government figures.
“When BJP talks of Viksit Bharat, it should also talk about the well-being of these farmers,” the SP president added.
