Dibrugarh: A massive fire on Saturday evening severely damaged the lab of computer science department at Moran College in Charaideo district.
Taking stock of the destruction, college authorities on Sunday said the blaze had gutted all the 50 computer units, 2 air conditioners, 2 projectors, as well as several UPS units. Also, furnitures, including tables and chairs, have suffered considerable damage.
Initially, the fire caught the attention of Manash Pratim Gogoi, an assistant professor of the computer science department.“I was checking answer scripts in an adjacent room. Suddenly, I saw smoke coming out of the computer lab which was locked. I immediately rang up the fire service and informed our students. The fire was so severe that we could not save any items, despite our best effort. All the 50 computer units were gutted, along with 2 ACs, 2 projectors and several UPS units. Only the printer remained unscathed.”
College authorities confirmed that the fire was eventually brought under control after fire tenders, from Moran fire service, arrived at the scene.Expressing his concern, Gogoi said, “We had recently repaired the electrical wiring inside the lab. We suspect that the wiring was not properly done which may have triggered a short circuit.”

NDMC to Provide 9,000 Computer Tablets and Upgrade Sports Infrastructure in Schools
NDMC plans to improve school facilities by providing computer tablets, strengthening sports infrastructure, and establishing nature-based classrooms. They aim to achieve Viksit Bharat@2047 by modernizing education and adopting green energy. The council will establish a wrestling center at Atal Adarsh Vidyalaya. Additionally, they will expand tablet distribution to benefit 9,000 students and upgrade sports infrastructures. The NDMC is collaborating with NIFT to redesign school uniforms. Consultants will be appointed for education and sports, and estate managers will oversee school infrastructure. Synthetic tracks will be laid in parks for comfort and dust elimination.
