Stray Pup: Stray Pup with Fractured Femur Receives Life-Saving Surgery in Surat | Surat News
Surat: A stray puppy got a new lease of life thanks to the common citizens of Adajan area in Surat who came together for a critical surgery on its femur bone that was broken. The two-month-old puppy has now recovered and is back on its feet.
Thirty-year-old businessman Jiten Kawa walked his pet dog on Pal Gaurav Path every day. This is when he noticed a few puppies on the roadside and started feeding them.
“Recently, I saw that one puppy was badly injured in the hind leg.On examination, it was revealed that his femur bone was broken. I contacted Prayas Team Environment (PTE) and they agreed to treat it,” Kawa told TOI. He added that the puppy was probably hit by some vehicle.
The femur is the longest bone in an animal’s body and if it is broken, the chances of its survival are negligible.
“It was an important case for us. In this case, locals came together to help the puppy and rehabilitated it after treatment,” said Darshan Desai, a volunteer at PTE.
He said that it was challenging for PTE to ensure complete recovery since the dog requires proper aftercare post-surgery which includes physiotherapy and rest. “We wanted to ensure that the puppy lived a better life after surgery,” added Desai.
After recovery, the dog was released from where it was picked up. Now, he was able to move freely.
This act of kindness by citizens comes in the wake of rising cases of stray dog attacks on humans, which in some cases have proved fatal. While the Surat civic body is implementing the animal birth control programme on war footing to bring dog population under control, there have been instances of brutality on strays in some areas.
