Lucknow: A man and his lover, who were in their early 20s, ended their lives at their houses after their families disapproved of their relationship, in Maal.
ACP, Maal, Virendra Vikram said that the couple consumed some poisonous substance on Sunday after they failed to get consent from their respective families for their marriage.
Police said that the duo met somewhere in the locality and decided to end their lives.
Family members of the man informed the police that he fell unconscious while dining with them. He was taken to a community health centre where doctors referred him to Balrampur Hospital on Sunday where he died on Monday morning.
After having dinner with her family, the woman went to her room and consumed some poisonous substance. Her brother went to wake her up on Monday morning but she did not respond. She was taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead.
The ACP said that their post-mortem reports were awaited.
