S2 – Ep 25 – Mercury in Capricorn: Practical, Realistic, and Solid

After an unusually long two-month stay in Sagittarius, Mercury moves into Capricorn on January 8. This is an improved placement for Mercury.  This is likely to help you become a little more grounded in your words and your plans. This is a time to be a little more discerning and thoughtful with your commitments and your time.

In today’s show I’m super excited about one planet changing signs that I want to share a little about.

On Wednesday January 8 Mercury will move into Capricorn, after spending 2 months in Sagittarius.

So back to Mercury.

Mercury leaving Sagittarius and moving into Capricorn is an excellent shift for Mercury as it brings Mercury out of a sign of detriment and into a more neutral sign.

This will help Mercury get back to a more practical kind of expression and is likely to help all of us come back down to earth with our plans, thinking and conversations.

Mercury will be in Capricorn for about two and half weeks, from January 8 – 27.

During this time, Mercury is expressing a more earthy quality, and may turn your attention to practical matters. You might be more realistic in your thinking or expectations, or find you’re happy to work with what you have rather than splurge or chase greener pastures.

Mercury in Capricorn is more serious and cautious by nature and you may take time to review, research and plan before making a commitment or organising your schedule.

While in Capricorn Mercury is ruled by Saturn, which can add qualities of wisdom and experience, or might help you focus on a longer term plan or project.

Exploring time and how to use, organise and structure your days and weeks might be on your mind as Mercury rules through Capricorn.

Since Mercury, planet of thinking is now in an earth sign, about matter and tangible goods, you might want to organise what you own, or simplify your space. Capricorn is kind of minimalist and so you may be more intentional about what you use and honest what you don’t.

During its time in Capricorn Mercury will aspect Saturn, its sign ruler, via sextile around January 19. That will be an excellent aspect for making commitments, signing a contract or finalising important paperwork and agreements.

There are lots of practical elements to Mercury moving into Capricorn that can help with organisation, managing commitments and time and generally creating a solid foundation for what’s to come.

For me though, I’m really looking forward to a quieter kind of Mercury after the loud, brash and at times over the top themes of Mercury in Sagittarius, which we had for much longer than usual this time around.

Since Mercury has spent the past two months in Sagittarius, from early November, you might notice the topics of the Sagittarius house in your birth chart have gone through a number of shifts as things have been hectic or more scattered than usual.

If so, you too might breathe a sigh of relief as Mercury moves out of your Sagittarius sector and you get a chance to settle into a more manageable pattern around these areas of your life.
