Gurgaon: Around 60,000 students in classes 10 and 12 of 1,300 private schools may not be able to appear for the board examinations scheduled to begin from February 27 this year.
Examination forms for these students are yet to be filled since the unrecognised private schools have been waiting for an extension to their temporary affiliation with the board. Private school operators have been protesting against the eligibility rules for providing the extension to unrecognised schools.
“The exam forms of these students have not been submitted yet due to the non-extension of recognition. We have been cornered and the future of our students is at stake. Their parents are also worried and we have been urging the government to give us an extension so that we can clear the current batch of board students,” Ravinder Nandal, head of association of private schools, said.
Notably, the government has refused to give temporary recognition to the private schools in the state for the 2023-24 session. The department has asked temporarily recognised private schools to deposit a bond amount and as per the latest orders, if any such school fulfills all norms and takes permanent recognition from the government by March 31, the bond amount would be refunded.
Meanwhile, the directorate of secondary education has sought information from the district education officers (DEOs) about temporary affiliated schools. In a letter to DEOs, the directorate has asked for details on such existing schools and number of students as well as neighbouring government schools.
Raghuraj Raman, father of a student, said, “We admitted our children to these schools thinking they will be given enough attention for the secondary examinations. The standoff between the department and schools is affecting the future of our children and we can do nothing but watch.”
“My child wants to pursue engineering and is preparing for JEE. All his preparations will go to waste if he doesn’t get to sit for board exams,” said the mother of another student of Class 12.
